Cseri's Family
All began in Vienna, the capital of Austria.
With the curiosity of 10 year old Alexander ,
about the art of hand-weaving and carpets , an uncle gave him a small hand-loom in the hope to
keep him out of his father's dentist-office . It was such a success that Alexander became
more and more interested , and studied different kinds of dyeing , weaving and handmade
carpets .
Leaving Europe in 1951 to live in Brazil ( São Paulo ) , Alexander never forgot
his interest in carpets and besides other activities he soon begun to make some carpets
and to restore carpets and tapestries .
Still in the fifties, he acquired a farm near Itapetininga ( interior of São Paulo
State ) beginning there different farm activities .
Married to Carla Toscani from Italy ( Udine )
moved to the farm where he taught her all he knew about weaving and knitting .
In the sixties, they began to breed sheep using wool for
their products , executing all the steps , beginning with shearing , washing , carding ,
spinning and dyeing .
Becoming more and more skilled, they moved from the handlooms to big "uprights" , similar to the looms used by the oriental
carpet makers
, working in different styles with the help of their daughters Claudia ( who paints too ) and Sabina .
Besides Kelims , the Cseri weave tapestries ( Goblins ) according to the interests
and needs of the client's order ( specialty : coats of arms ) designs of their own , or
the client's taste .
The atelier Fazenda 7 Pastores ( 7 Shepherds Farm ) is always open to visit , purchase or order .
